1. Agreement

By installing or using Clipwright you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please uninstall the app. Your use of Google Play is additionally governed by Google's own terms.

2. What Clipwright is

Clipwright is an offline utility for trimming, splitting, cropping and re-encoding video files that are already on your Android device. It is free, contains no advertising, and offers no purchases or subscriptions.

3. Licence

You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Clipwright on devices you own or control, for personal or commercial purposes. You may not sell, sublicense, rent, reverse-engineer, decompile or attempt to derive the source code of the app, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction.

4. Your content

Your videos remain entirely yours. We claim no ownership, licence or right of any kind over the video you process with Clipwright. We never receive it: the app has no internet permission and no server component.

You are responsible for having the right to use, edit and share the video you process. Do not use Clipwright to infringe copyright, to circumvent copy protection, or to create or distribute unlawful material.

5. What Clipwright does not promise

Video processing depends on the hardware codecs of your particular device. Clipwright states these limits plainly rather than hiding them:

6. Back up your own files

Clipwright is designed never to modify or delete your original videos, and it is tested against that behaviour. Even so, you remain responsible for keeping your own backups of anything you value. Exported clips stored inside the app are removed when you delete them or uninstall the app.

7. No warranty

Clipwright is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device or every video file.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Binary Data Technology and Joseph Hagan shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, or for any loss of data, footage, profits or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of or inability to use Clipwright — even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Because Clipwright is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you for any claim relating to the app shall not exceed the amount you paid for it, which is zero.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is the case, the exclusions and limitations above apply only to the fullest extent that jurisdiction permits, and nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited. You may also have statutory consumer rights that these terms do not affect.

9. Open-source components

Clipwright includes software from the AndroidX and Kotlin projects, including AndroidX Media3, Jetpack Compose and Room, all licensed under the Apache License 2.0. Those components remain subject to their own licences.

10. Changes and availability

We may update Clipwright, change its features, or stop distributing it at any time. Updated terms will be published on this page with a new effective date; continuing to use the app after that date means you accept the updated terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here deprives you of the protection of mandatory consumer-protection law in your own country of residence.
