The short version
Clipwright works entirely on your phone. It has no account, no server, and no internet permission at all — it is technically incapable of sending anything anywhere. Your videos are read from your device, processed on your device, and stay on your device unless you choose to save or share a result yourself.
We collect nothing. We show no ads. We use no analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifier and no crash reporting. We have no data to sell, because we never receive any.

Your original video is never modified, moved or deleted. Clipwright opens the file you selected for reading only, and writes its results to separate new files.
Clipwright does not collect your name, email address, location, contacts, calendar, photos other than the video you explicitly pick, device identifiers, usage statistics or crash reports.
2. Permissions
Clipwright requests three permissions and no others:
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS). Optional, and requested only when you first open the export queue. It is used solely to show how far an export has got and to let you cancel it from the notification. If you decline, every part of the app still works and exports still run — you simply will not see progress while Clipwright is in the background.
- Foreground service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE and FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC). These let an export you started keep running when you switch to another app, instead of being killed partway through. They involve no data collection and show no prompt.
Clipwright deliberately does not request internet access, storage permissions, location, contacts, camera, microphone, exact alarms or any advertising identifier. Videos are chosen through the Android system file picker, which grants access to only the single file you select.
Two permissions that Android media libraries normally add on an app's behalf —
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE and WAKE_LOCK — have been explicitly removed from
Clipwright, because the app has no use for either.
3. Android backup and device transfer
Android may include Clipwright's settings and its list of clips and edit settings in your Google account backup or a device-to-device transfer, according to your phone's own backup settings. Exported video files are excluded from that backup and from device transfer, so your footage does not leave your phone through Android's backup system. This backup is controlled by Android and Google, not by Clipwright, and you can turn it off in your phone's settings.
4. Sharing and saving
Nothing leaves the app unless you act:
- Share hands one exported clip to the app you pick in the Android share sheet. The app tells you on screen that this is what will happen. That app's own privacy policy then applies to what it does with the file.
- Save to gallery (Android 10 and newer) copies one exported clip into your Movies folder.
- Save a copy writes one exported clip to a location you choose in the system file picker.
- Play in another app opens one exported clip in a video player you already have, granting it read access to that single file.
5. Backup files you create
Save a backup in Settings writes a JSON file containing your clip list and the edit settings you chose, to a location you pick. Video is never included in a backup — the files are large and already on your device, and copying your footage into a shareable document is not something a backup button should do quietly. The file is yours; Clipwright does not upload it anywhere. Restoring shows you exactly what a backup contains, and what will be skipped, before anything is written.
6. Data deletion
Because Clipwright keeps no copy of anything outside your phone, you delete it yourself:
- One export: open Results and tap Delete. Copies you already saved or shared elsewhere are not affected.
- One clip: tap the delete icon beside it on the home screen. This forgets the clip and its settings. Your video file on the device is not deleted.
- All finished exports: Settings → Delete all finished exports.
- Everything: uninstalling Clipwright removes all of its private storage.
7. Children
Clipwright is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. It collects no data from anyone, of any age.
8. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
